Crossbow Shooting – For Adult Boys.
Filed under: Archery, Diamond Archery, Equipment, Hunting, Sports And Fitness
One of the oldest past times for boys are crossbows. As a child I recalled spending countless hours in the shed making homemade crossboys then taking them out to the field and shooting them around. Then when you become an adult and have a full salary you realize, hey I can afford that super awsome powerful crossbow with the leftover cash I have in my wallet!
Wether you enjoy target shooting, hunting or just shooting obejects like glass bottles, crossbows are an enjoyable past time that stays with boys until they are old men.
On todays market at least since the 70′s there are two types of crossbows – traditional recurve and compound. The traditional recurve is the traditional curved limbs with string opposed to the compound alternative which is a modern bow set-up which uses pulleys and gears to harness the energy. The compound set up seems to be the most popular style for crossbows during this day of age. Personally I have always preferred the recurve set up as I find it to be the most simple and traditional crossbow. Just like the knights of the crusades you would watch on TV or read about as a kid. The interesting thing I find about crossbows, is that crossbows are slower to reload than regular bows, do not fire as much distance as bows and alot more heavier to carry around, yet for some reason it must be the boy in me… crossbows are just far more fun.
There are various brands leading the crossbow market, such as BARNETT, HORTON and TENPOINT.
The Crossbow I personally own the BARNETT WILDCAT C5. It is not the most powerfull on the market or the most expensive but, it is a really good quality and reliable crossbow. I have always been a Barnett shooter, but Horton is also another reliable brand.
Rifle shooting is a sport for boys who want to be men, Crossbow shooting is a sport for men who want to be boys. If you are ever out shopping on the weekend, and pass by an archery store, think about what your eleven-year-old self would do if you had the money you have now.
and perhaps it will bring back some fond memories.
If you want to check out the medium level crossbow I shoot with you can read a review HERE
Otherwise if you want to find out more, you can research BARNETT, HORTON or TENPOINT.
